We
visit different countries every year. In the past five years, we have photographed in France, Italy, Greece, Ireland, Scotland, England, Austria,
and the Czech
Republic. After
each trip, we publish a collaborative book of our work. See Latest News page.
Our 2011 Tour will take us to Paris, the Swiss Alps, and both coasts of Italy, traveling between cities via Eurail. HURRY. Deposits are due NOW.
If you wait, you may be too late!
Overnight cities will be Paris, the Alps near Interlaken, Venice, and the Cinque Terre... with optional visits to Milan, Rome, Florence, Siena, the Amalfi Coast, and more.
NOTE: For those who live outside the San Diego area or have no interest in earning college credit, please email me. *Email*
This trip is designed for all levels of photography lovers. If you choose, you can earn college credit for three or more photography courses
(4+ units). For those in the San Diego area, we will meet at City College in May for pre-travel
discussions. While in Europe, we will walk through
different neighborhoods of each city we visit. At the end of our time
together, we will fly home, or you can opt to stay longer to explore other cities on your
own. Who can participate in EuroFoto tours? This
tour was designed with the 'serious' photographer in mind, but we
certainly encourage anyone interested to consider joining us. In
past years, we've enjoyed groups comprised of beginning and advanced
photo students, retired people, amateur photographers, professional
photographers, families, mother-and-daughters, couples, art and film majors,
foreign language majors, and 'point-n-shooters' who simply liked our
itinerary and wanted to travel with a group of photographers.
We will discuss and study units on
film vs. digital, camera and lens selection, tripods, night
shooting, infrared photography, color, black and white, environmental portraiture,
landscape, and much more. Upon our return to San Diego, you will have
the opportunity to spend several weeks printing in black and white or
digital, on-campus in our brand new darkrooms and digital labs! The culmination
of the classes will be portfolios ready for exhibition. For those opting out of the college credit or living outside San Diego, we can communicate via email to prepare you for our trip and also critique your work after we all return home.
The final itinerary and cost could change, somewhat contingent upon the size of the group and how soon everyone gets involved. The sooner we finalize our travel "group", the lower the cost, mostly due to potential airfare hikes for (peak) Summer travel. Also, those who enroll early will have a greater vote on final itinerary options. We will keep all participants up-dated and try to keep this website as up-to-date as possible. Email will be used frequently to keep in contact with the group in the months before departure.
The regions/cites we have chosen for 2011 have some of the most amazing photographic possibilities on Earth! Morning, noon, and night, we will be exploring and photographing different areas, back-alleys, and the people and various cultures within each unique area. Many days will be planned with group walks and activities in the morning, leaving afternoons and evenings free to explore individually or in small groups. It is the responsibility of each traveler to do your own research to plan how to spend your free time. You will typically have several hours each day to wander, explore, get "lost", and make your own discoveries. Read: Decide, before we leave, what interests you in each area and what you want to see. And, if you decide to stay longer, there are many options. You could go on to Rome, or travel on to the Amalfi Coast, Florence, Barcelona, London, or many other beautiful and picturesque cities or countries. Unlike many travel-tours, we will not spend the majority of our time staring at the back of a motorcoach
headrest while trying to see nine countries in nine days. This
adventure has been planned for the photographer, with ample time in
most areas to explore the back streets and more. This will allow each
of us to bring home a better individual sense of each city or region
along with a more representative and in-depth portfolio of the area,
its people, sights, surroundings, and our personal and emotional
response to each.
This is a photographic adventure.
We will not hold your hand each step of the way and tell you "what" to
photograph. You will decide, much of the time, where to go, what to
see, what to photograph, and what to do with your time. As
artists / photographers, each of us will want to photograph different
things at different times of the day. You will have this
freedom. Plan your free time accordingly. Buy a good guide
book, search online, watch videos, ask questions, and plan your own
itinerary for your personal time. This trip may be a
once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Don't "waste" your time in your
hotel room or sitting in a bar or restaurant. Get out and
explore. Talk with people. Get out and SHOOT. When we get home, you may be tired, but
you'll be glad you invested your hours in your images... and not a
hundred pints of ale.
This is advice... from former students... AFTER they got home.
Virtual Tour?
Anyone who has experienced Google-Earth was probably amazed
the first time you "flew" from continent to continent. If you
have not yet seen this "mapping" software, you can download it FREE,
for Windows or Mac, at http://earth.google.com/.
We expect the 2011 tour to sell out, so if you are interested, we recommend you submit your deposit and application ASAP.
